Whoa! What Just Happened to Days of Our Lives’ EJ?

A funny thing happened to EJ on Thursday’s Days of Our Lives episode. As soon as he learned that Xander and Philip had paid off a year’s worth of the loan, he put Rita on the case to find out how. And the second he did, he ran straight to Gabi’s office to rage at her until he was red in the face! Anger, though, wasn’t the only reason EJ’s face was a bit flushed during that encounter.

Because mid-yelling at Gabi, EJ was suddenly hit with a sneezing fit! And that had a number of fans (along with us) wondering what the heck was going on.

Was this EJ sneezing or Dan Feuerriegel, mid-scene? If it was the latter, then major kudos to him and Cherie Jimenez for not just not breaking character, but rolling with the fit! If they adlibbed through that, it was brilliant.

On the other hand, if the sneezing was intentional and in-character, the question becomes: Why? What would prompt a sneezing fit from EJ? There were a lot of flowers in that office, so maybe he’s just having an allergy attack. But we imagine there would have to be a reason beyond the writers wanting to inject some “realism” into the scene or something. So… what’s going on?

Is EJ under so much stress that he’s starting to get sick with something that will end up a lot more serious than the common cold?

Maybe he’s finally cracking and the sneezing is an inadvertent “tell” whenever he’s lying. And in this case, he would have been lying about knocking off Gabi’s bags! (Though again, she seems to have jumped to another conclusion that may not bear out in the end.)

One possibility could come from Redditor u/sodascouts over on the Days of Our Lives subreddit. “I’m thinking he’s allergic to the bag,” they suggested, “and it’s going to give him away as the thief.”

That would be a clever twist, but how would it prove anything? Would someone remember him having a sneezing fit a little while back, giving Gabi the “proof” she wants? She did have the bag on her desk when EJ came barging in. But EJ didn’t seem to react with any kind of allergy when she pretty much shoved it in his face.

Will a sneeze somehow be the thing to bring down EJ and all his schemes? That would be a hell of a downfall!

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but we’ll hand it to Days of Our Lives: Never before has sneezing gotten our attention like this before! Well, unless someone literally sneezed in our face. Ick.
