Johnny Leaves Trey’s Birthday Party to Search Sarah’s Office — and Shawn and Jada Create Their Own Fireworks

On her way to Trey’s birthday party, Marlena stops by the Pub for a drink with Roman. As they sit at a table, he tells her Kate moved into the Kiriakis mansion. He doesn’t know how to live with what Kate did to Johnny, but he also doesn’t know how to live without her.

As Johnny wraps a birthday present for Trey at home, EJ calls to confirm that Holly is ill from arsenic poisoning. Chanel overhears as Johnny pushes back on EJ’s request (which we don’t hear). Johnny covers with Chanel, who looks forward to their son’s first birthday.

Tears, Food and Festivities

When Chad runs into Lexie in the Square, she thanks him for being there for Theo while she’s been gone. She makes him promise they’ll stay close and that he’ll keep looking after him. He readily agrees, but wonders if something is wrong. Lexie covers, insisting she just wants Theo to listen to his better angels.

After Chad leaves, Lani comes upon an emotional Lexie. She chalks it up to being an overprotective mother worried about her son and asks Lani not to tell Abe. Abe and Theo join them with hot dogs, tamales and potato salad from a food truck, pointedly suggesting they eat in the park. But Lexie is happy in the Square, unaware Trey’s party is being held there.

When Johnny, Chanel, Trey and Paulina do arrive, Theo joins them for cake. Lexie assures Abe the Square is big enough for everyone, but as they eat, Abe steals a longing look at the celebration. Paulina does the same at his table.

Under the guise of stepping away for a business call, Johnny leaves the party to slip into Sarah’s office at the hospital. He puts on latex gloves.

Exes on Dates With Others

After Jada walks in on a shirtless Shawn at home, he asks her out on a date. She notes how odd it is that they’re doing things backward. All he cares about is wining and dining her. They kiss before she goes to get ready.

At The Bistro, Chad and Belle stop by Shawn and Jada’s table before sitting at their own. Shawn and Belle privately tell their dates that they’re happy their exes are moving on. At their table, Belle and Chad discuss the chessboard mystery before he presents her with two tickets to the Salem String Quartet in the Square. After eating, Shawn suggests dessert before the fireworks, but Jada has something more private in mind. They head home to set off their own fireworks in Shawn’s bedroom.

Fireworks in the Square

After Lexie grows emotional recalling Theo’s parties as a child, she and Abe watch the fireworks on the Square’s bench. A tear runs down her face as Abe happily watches the light show.

Nearby, Chad takes Belle’s hand, and they lean in for a kiss.

After Chanel has left, Lani and Paulina watch the fireworks with Theo. Lani invites her mother to go get the twins with her, but Paulina opts to head home. However, she runs into Roman and Marlena (who completely miss their great-grandson’s party) and watches the end of the fireworks with them.

Johnny returns home, not wanting to talk about work. He embraces Chanel with an uneasy expression.
