Holy Crap! General Hospital Just Executed What May Be Its Most Shocking Recast Ever — and We Darn Near Missed It!

General Hospital has had four Carlys, three Jordans and more Lucases than we can count. But one character we thought would never be recast is the infamous moss in Carly’s kitchen. Yet this past week — and right under our noses, no less — it was! (See below.)

That Plant Turned All the Others Green With Envy

Eons ago, when the set decoration put down roots, so to speak, executive producer Frank Valentini wasn’t sold on it. “I was like, ‘What is this? It looks like a bad salad,’” SoapHub reported him saying in 2020.

But the show’s production designer told the boss that it was trendy, so he let it go… and let it grow. Over the years, the moss has developed a fan club of its own; whole Soaps.com message-board pages are dedicated to it.

Ay, There’s the Shrub

The week of July 6-10, the old familiar moss was gone, replaced with a new plant in a smaller bowl and having a darker hue. Could the switch have taken place earlier, and we just didn’t notice?

As it is, Carly’s confrontations with Sonny and Lulu were so gripping, we almost missed the recast. But now that we’ve seen it, we can’t unsee it. Can you? Join us, why don’t you, in observing a moment of silence for the OG moss, arguably daytime’s first fan-favorite plant.
