The Ultimate Backstab: Young & Restless Is Doubling Down On Its Betrayal of John Abbott

We’ve written before about the absence of sense in Young & Restless’ current storyline — in which Billy is seeking to use an unpaid debt to steal Chancellor. But alas, after Friday’s episode (recapped here), it looks like we have to write about it again.

Why? Billy not giving a damn what his father would have wanted tracks. We don’t often agree with Victor, but he’s right about Billy: He’s a clown, and a completely self-absorbed one at that. But Jack throwing up his hands in hopes of “staying out of it” is completely out of character.

Will the Real Jack Please Stand Up… or *Show* Up!

Of all people, Jack would know that no way, no how would his and Billy’s father ever have wanted to do anything to harm Katherine or her company. Jack would know that John would be furious about what’s going on — and hella disappointed in Billy for being such a greedy jerk.

Making Jack look even worse in this scenario is the fact that Lily offered him an easy out: Let her repay the debt, Abbott gets what it is owed (including interest), and Chancellor maintains the status quo. But Jack didn’t jump at the chance to solve this problem before it worsens. He’s afraid that Billy will cut him out of his life.

Uh, would that be so bad?

Time to Cut Billy’s Branch Off the Abbott Family Tree

Look, just because you share blood with someone doesn’t mean you have to share a life with them. Billy has proven over and over again that he is incapable of maturing, incapable of evolving, incapable of thinking of anything or anyone but himself. Frankly, Jack would be well rid of the narcissistic screw-up.

 What do you think? Isn’t Jack’s “I’m not getting involved” stance a horrible betrayal of his father? Jack, who always wanted to prove himself to his dad, has a banner opportunity to be the man John raised him to be, and he’s… thinking about it? Facepalm.
